Africa Access

Africa Access provides reviews and annotations of K-12 books on Africa. Our reviews are written by university professors, librarians, and teachers who have lived in Africa and have graduate degrees in African Studies. Africa Access coordinates the selection process for the Children's Africana Book Awards and provides lessons on selected award titles.

Outreach Council of the African Studies Association


The members of the Outreach Council share and disseminate resources about Africa; exchanges experiences on best practices in conducting outreach activities; serves as the ASA membership in educating the public about Africa; and facilitates the exchange of ideas, information and research findings on Africa. Annually the Council supports the Children's Africana Book Awards and the Teachers Workshop during the African Studies Association meetings.

West African Research Association 

The West African Research Association is headquartered at Boston University’s African Studies Center. A consortium of colleges and universities with interests in Africa, WARA’s mission is to promote research on West Africa and its diasporic communities and to  facilitate exchange between West African scholars and their counterparts in the region, in the US, and elsewhere.
